Trends I love: How to Rock a Middle Part

Oh the middle part.

It often seems like a mystery that can never be conquered. It can look disastrous, but if done right it really can look amazing and be extremely flattering.

So how do you get it to look like this -

Honestly, the middle part isn't for everyone.
But here are some tips to help you decide if it's right for you!

Tip #1. If you have bangs, I recommend growing them to at least your cheek bone before you try a middle part (otherwise they might look like the picture above).

Once they've grown out a little, round brush them forward so the ends curl back into your hair. This will cause your bangs to brush your cheek bones slightly, accentuating them.
Very flattering!

Tips #2. You don't have to part it exactly in the middle, perfectly straight, and all the way to the back of your head.
Instead try parting it a little uneven.
Use your finger to part it instead of a comb, or flip it upside down and dry it without a part, letting it fall naturally when it's dry.

Tip #3. If you're going to wear it straight, a middle part will look sleek and slimming IF your layers are soft and long (not short and choppy).

Tip #4. If you're going to wear it wavy, softly curl it away from your face.
(Too much flip around your face might start looking like the 1970's.)

Trends I love: Wedding hair trends

I don't know what it is about me that makes me so obsessed with bridal hair. I can't help it. Ever since I had my hair done in an updo for the first time when I was 12 . . . there was no turning back. I was doomed! (in a good way of course.)
I am loving where the bridal hair world is headed. Here are three of my current favorite trends:

Trend #1 - SIMPLICITY
I am a minimalist, which is probably why I like this trend so much. There is something so feminine about bridal hair that is simple and natural!

Trend #2 - THEMED
No matter what the theme - vintage, rustic, whimsical, glamorous . . . brides are using their bridal pictures as a time to play DRESS UP!

Trend #3 - TEXTURE

One thing to remember is that nothing will stand out in a picture as much as it does in person. That's why TEXTURE in your hair looks so good when photographed.

Trends I love: For the Guys

Lately I'm loving where the trend is headed with men's styles. My brothers are always asking me what to do with their hair, so this post is for them! (FYI this is just MY opinion, not hair doctrine).

Guys hairstyles are moving to a softer, natural, more classic look with more movement and natural wave. Allow me to demonstrate:

1. The spiked look. Instead of THIS:

(Way too spiky)

Do THIS:



A dry look instead of a gel look. Much more classic instead of boy band.

2. The shag. Instead of this:

(Yikes)

Do THIS:

A little shorter, NO flat iron, a lot of movement. MUCH BETTER.

3. The buzz cut is IN:

Warning!

If you think you have a small head, if you have ever been called a "bean pole", or if you cannot grow facial hair . . . seriously reconsider before you go for this look.

4. Emo is OUT:

(Was it ever really in????)

Natural and classic looks . . . IN:

(A softer version of parted hair is definitely in)

Trends I love: Melted Color

A huge trend right now with hair coloring is called color melting. Basically instead of applying highlights root to end like you normally would in foils, you blend the colors from dark at the roots to light at the ends. This can be done with just two colors or as many colors as you like. The highlights are placed in order to bring out facial features and brighten up your skin tone. The results are really natural and soft, the type of look that is worn by lots of celebrities right now. Color melting has been around for a while, but people still tend to shy away from it because they think that dark roots and light ends will make them look like they have "grow-out". It's not true everyone, it's just not true :) Take a look at these pictures and see for yourself! Notice how all of them have dark roots and light ends, creating a really natural looking color. You would never get a "stripy" hair color with color melting!

Trends I Love: No Bangs

I've decided to start posting about trends I am currently loving in the hair and make-up world. Now . . . I don't think I'm the most trendy person in the world. I try to be . . .and sometimes I fail. Nonetheless, the trends that I do recognize and love I want to share with you! The first thing I want to blog about is the no bang trend!! Don't get me wrong, bangs are cute, but I am loving the no bang look. I have a horrible cowlick in my bangs, so this trend works in my favor. Maybe that's why I like it :) Here are some lovely examples:
